04 August 2021

Dear Renaissance Academy Students, Staff, Parents, and Community,

I am truly honored and humbled to have been selected as the new Chief Educational Officer for Renaissance Academy Charter School of the Arts (RA).   I wish to thank the Board of Trustees for designing a truly rigorous and thorough interview process, and for entrusting me with the future success of the school. I am looking forward to partnering with our students, educators, families, and community to ensure we meet and exceed the school’s mission – of providing our children with an enriched and rigorous education through the humanities and arts integration leading to success in college, careers, and life.

Along with the Board of Trustees, I am vested in the school’s vision and core values, to provide every student with a supportive and successful educational experience.    I’d like to use my CEO platform to support families and their children as they journey through academia and discover those endless possibilities for themselves.  I have been in the role a few short weeks and my transition and onboarding have been extremely swift but very supportive.  I have quickly learned that RA is committed to the students and this community.

I will dedicate my attention to engaging all stakeholders through various outlets (meetings and open communication avenues) to build relationships, learn what has made Renaissance Academy Charter School of the Arts a point of pride in the community, and develop a depth of knowledge on how to continuously improve the organization to benefit the students we serve.

This year marks my 25th year in education--it’s a school year which demands reevaluation and critical-thinking as to how we respond to and prepare for authentic instruction delivery in the midst of the pandemic and during one the largest social justice movements of all time.

I have served in different roles in education, and for each position, I’ve had a direct impact on teaching and learning and student achievement.   As a high school visual arts teacher, I fostered a  classroom environment  giving students choice, voice, and agency which allowed them to take ownership of their learning.  While serving as a visual arts senior coordinator, I supervised the overall instructional and operational functions within a district’s visual arts department. And most recently, as a senior program officer for arts education, I  expanded reciprocal partnerships with organizations that leveraged the community to bring resources within classrooms.

I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and the proud product of urban, public education.  I stem from a family of educators and have obtained the following degrees: BFA in Graphic Design from The American College of Art & Design, M.Ed. in Art Education from the University of West Georgia, and Doctor of Philosophy in Teaching and Learning from Georgia State University.  Along with those degrees,  I have certifications in Educational Administration and Supervision, PK-12 Teaching, and Arts Administration & Management.

The first week of school (August 23-27), will give me the chance to meet and learn from as many of you as possible. In both the morning and afternoon carpool lines, I will ask that you participate in a survey to help me understand why you are proud of the school and some areas that need to be improved.  Should I miss you that week,  the survey will be emailed, a link will be added on our website and it will be shared through social media. Please take the time to complete it as your input is extremely valuable to me.

Again, I am extremely excited to be appointed as CEO of such an amazing school and I look forward to partnering with you as we, together, assist the children of RA for academic success and preparation towards their future endeavors.

Elevating Education of Our Students,
